Want to make your own layers?

Anyone with basic development knowledge can make a layer. Just follow these 5 steps:

1: Browse the documentation

Start with the platform overview then look at the wiki for more details. For further help, you can use the Layar Developers discussion group for questions and answers.

2: Get access

Request a key to gain access to the developers publishing site.

3: Design and build layers

This is the point when you will probably want to read and re-read the wiki . And use the Layar Developers discussion group. The community of developers have also made available several tools that make it easier to develop layers. Here is an overview.

4: Publish and promote

At the publishing stage, the layer is checked technically to make sure it works properly. Once the layer is live, we recommend making and sharing a video showing how it works. See what others have done.

5: Get others to pay you for developing layers

Once you know how to design and build layers, you can market these skills. Layer is a free service and if a company is willing to pay you for layer development then that is fine with us. Actually, we encourage it, as it helps the Layar community grow. There are people out there right now making money and employing people to help develop layers.
